At her book signing at BOOK REVUE on January 24, 2008, Erin Ley was awarded with a PROCLAMATION from the Suffolk County Legislator, John M. Kennedy Jr., for her writing, cancer experience, and what she has done with all of it to help others. Erin feels deeply honored to have received such an award.

Erin Ley is a wife and mother of three. Erin was born and raised in New York and currently resides in Smithtown, Long Island. She holds a BA degree specializing in speech/language pathology with a minor in psychology from Hofstra University.

Erin is a cancer survivor, and two of her young children have been diagnosed with a severe and potentially life-threatening peanut allergy. Ten percent of the proceeds of Erin Ley's The Will to Live will be donated to the American Cancer Society, and ten percent of the proceeds of the Maggie the Magnificent series will be donated to the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN).

Erin clearly understands the importance of developing strong positive character traits in young children, such as responsibility, respect, compassion, honesty and accountability, self-discipline, generosity, self-esteem, individuality, and courage. She would like to inspire both children and adults living in today's fast-paced society to understand the significance of taking another step toward great character, a strong belief in oneself, and the rewards from doing so.

In addition, Erin is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI), Long Island Children's Writers and Illustrators (LICWI), Nassau BOCES, and Suffolk BOCES, along with being a strong advocate for the non-profit cancer organization called Strength For Life.
