My Image

Welcome to my new site! This is an exciting time. A time of many “new beginnings”.

I’m launching many things at once. There’s an expression, “All good things come to those who wait.” Well, I’ve been extremely patient as I’ve met many bumps in the road. Each bump a mere obstacle I’ve run around, fallen over, leaped over, or flat out kicked to the curb. Now it seems as if the stars have aligned.

As a child, approximately forty years ago, I told my parents, “When I grow up I want to write children’s books.”

I’m fifty-one and I have without a doubt grown deeper and found my passion, my life’s purpose. Extending my hand and helping others [based on my own life experiences] is what I find most rewarding. As you’ll see here in this new site, all that I do has one underlying current. Sharing my experiences, with the intent to help others young and old get through their struggles with far less difficulty, especially those affected by a cancer diagnosis, is what I love to do. My primary goal is for your quality of life to be much greater because we connected, and your struggles to be far less, as a result of us connecting.

I find writing character-building children’s books most fascinating. Some writers try to find the perfect spin on a word, the rhythm flowing throughout the page, or maybe some form of genius in keeping the message hidden within the story for only the reader to interpret.

I, on the other hand, write mainly for the clear message. I write with a purpose. I’m not saying my writing is any better or worse than anyone else, all I’m saying is with my writing [as with me] “what you see is what you get.” Writing didactic character-building books for children is a huge part of what I do because I feel the youth of today may no longer interpret the hidden message. Time in their world has quickened with technology whereby moments to think and decipher a correct message may not be available. The virtue of patience has been tested like never before. Therefore, the message of respect, responsibility, compassion, honesty and accountability, self-discipline, generosity, self-esteem, individuality, courage and confidence are spelled out in my writing, obvious for the reader of my books. My intent is not condescending. Quite the contrary, it’s to ascend…lift and inspire to new heights. To be able to help each child recognize his or her unique kindness, beauty and extraordinary character through illustration is something I LOVE to do. One cannot unlearn what he or she has learned. The choices to be made thereafter have become that much more informed.

With the help of my twelve-year-old main character, Maggie the Magnificent, I bring children into the year 3510 to set out on many adventures with Maggie and her spaceship. Each adventure within my books, Maggie’s in the Driver’s Seat (consisting of six short stories) and Maggie Unmasks Planet Pumpkin deals with a different dominant character trait.

After having the Maggie the Magnificent children’s series published, the second half of my writing experience came to be…writing for adults. My empowering and inspiring cancer memoir/self-help book for adults titled, The Will To Live: The Perks of Cancer Through the Eyes of a Survivor was released. This book, too, is in line with my passion, what I believe to be my life’s purpose. I write for the message to be loud and clear. I write about hope, love, light and believing in oneself and others.

In 1991, when I was twenty-five years old, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoblastic lymphoma, requiring a grueling two-and-a-half-year chemo/radiation protocol at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Many of the chemo agents I was treated with back then are no longer administered, and based on the number of ct-scans I’ve had, I should be glowing in the dark. The doctors said I was going to die on more than one occasion throughout the protocol. They said I’d never have children. Well, I’m still here, twenty-five years later, glowing in a different kind of way, with three miracle children. I truly love my doctors.

For the last twenty-five years, I’ve dedicated myself as a cancer coach (before the title Cancer Coach even came to be), mentor, advocate, and motivational and inspirational speaker to help others get through their diagnosis without as much suffering as I endured during my two and half year protocol. It’s remarkably gratifying. I’m not a therapist or MD; however, I am someone who has been where that cancer patient is, gets it, and can provide what is necessary to help the cancer patient and his/her caregiver to navigate through the diagnosis and red-tape, incorporating many integrative type approaches to treatment options, instantly boosting the quality of life for everyone involved, with complete allegiance to the patient and not the medical institutions.

I use a completely different technique than most. I no longer discuss “fighting” cancer, or “battling” cancer. That’s VERY draining. I have had a complete mindshift and would love to pass this insight on to the patients and the caregivers with whom I work as a Cancer Coach to help them “love themselves” as they stay “in the moment” focused on their “strengths”, their “inner-being”, their “courage”, “greatness”, “joy”, and most importantly, their “peace of mind”, and “tranquility” through the protocol! When someone focuses on loving oneself, taking care of the mind body spirit connection, tuned into hope, implementing very simple practices that instantly boost the endorphins in the brain (the happy cells), which in turn boosts the immune system, which ultimately defies the cancer the luxury of feeding off of fear, anxiety, and depression, he or she is no longer just existing as a spectator in life…he or she is now immersed in life in a much deeper, much more satisfying way. The word “health” has many different perceived definitions. People see it and define it differently…it’s more personally defined. Therefore, each person’s experience with cancer has to be tailored for that particular individual.

I’ve done this myself. The techniques learned even came in handy as I went through a shocking and tumultuous divorce during the recent few years. I’m now grounded moreso than I ever thought I was or could ever be. It’s amazing. It’s wonderful! And, I’ve defied medical science with regard to my own personal cancer diagnosis more times than I can count. I’d LOVE to work together with anyone going through the cancer diagnosis to provide them with the tools and the insight that I’ve gained “the hard way”. Drop the gloves…no need to fight. Fighting is draining, in every way. Let me show you a better way.

As a result of wanting to sing from the rooftops on more than one occasion what it is I’ve felt very deeply and strongly compelled to say, I decided in March 2010 to begin my own international web-based family oriented talk radio show.

Onward And Upward (which represents *moving forward and growing*), my radio program on BlogTalkRadio.com, has always been about raising the proverbial bar in society. From 2010-2013, I have had guests from all walks of life who are experts in their fields, a broad range. I’ve learned just as much as our listeners, as topics were being discussed, during any episode. The show took a five year personal hiatus. It was during this hiatus that I experience the complete, I would even say Spiritual, mindshift discussed a moment ago.

Now, heading into 2018, after restructuring the show, Onward And Upward will be focused solely on the cancer conundrum of our time, the affect it has on everyone, and what we CAN do about it! Onward And Upward will be focused on how we can better help our cancer patients, their caregivers, families, friends, doctors, and everyone else affected by the diagnosis. I will research and find experts in this field and invite them to be on the show. I will ask those patients I am mentoring to share with me which cancer organizations and/or societies they would like to shed light on, and I will do just that. Kindness begets kindness. My goal is to do my part in helping to dramatically increase quality of life, at the very least; and at best, to help bring about a cure.
